Uses for a Cheesehead Hat

If you've watched professional football in the past 15 years, you have more than likely laid your eyes on at least one Cheesehead. These hats were developed in 1987 by Foamation, a company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since then, Packers fans have been finding new and inventive ways to show their pride for the green and gold using the chunks of cheddar foam.

  1. The Hat

    • Originally, the term Cheesehead was meant to be derogatory, a nickname from Chicago Bears fans after they won the Superbowl. Rather than take it as an insult, Foamation had the idea to make hats that were shaped like blocks of cheese. To accommodate Packer-backer heads of different ages, the hats are now available in multiple sizes. And for those hoping to be a bit festive, the chunks of foam are easily painted for different seasons and occasions.

    Chips and Dip Bowl

    • Those who love Cheeseheads but don't want to wear a block of foam on their heads have found other uses for these hats. If you turn it upside down and place a bowl where the head is meant to go, you have a football-themed centerpiece that also elevates your spread. Place chips in the bowl and put bowls of dip along the top of the Cheesehead for a unique food display.

    Car Ornament

    • Whether it's to show Wisconsin pride or ridicule those from the dairy state, you can adorn the front of your vehicle with a Cheesehead to make a statement few will forget. The easiest way to do this is to cut off the back half of the hat and run wires through the foam. Loop the wires through the grille of your vehicle and secure them.

    Seat Cushion

    • If you're attending a live sporting event and the seats are less than comfortable, a Cheesehead is much more comfortable to sit on than a ball cap. These hats are approximately 4 inches of forgiving foam, which makes them good to sit on if the person in front of you is blocking your view.
