Fun Baseball Drills

Baseball Drills
-
Tailor drills for each position. Many drills are focused on a particular position, such as infielder, outfielder or pitcher. Other drills are more general. Drills that focus on both hitting and fielding, for example, apply to each position on the team. Incorporating competition into the drills can make them more fun.
Fielding and Throwing
-
Have players participate in "Follow the Ball," which, according to Qcbaseball.com, is a fun fielding and throwing drill that will get participants warmed up and improve conditioning. Put one player at each infield position, except for pitcher. All other players stand in a line at the shortstop position. A ground ball is hit by the coach to shortstop, and the first player in line throws the ball to the first baseman. The first baseman then throws to second base, who throws to third base, who then throws to the catcher at home plate. This focuses on accurate throws, proper catching technique and quick movements.
Hitting Drills
-
Help hitters hone their swing---while having fun---with a game a game of "Up the Middle." The coach or pitcher throws the ball to the batter, and he or she tries to hit it up the middle of the field. If it is hit to the left, toward third base, or to the right, toward first base, it does not count. The drill can be turned into a competition by giving each batter two or three chances. Batters get a point for each ball hit "down the middle." A variation of the drill is to give points for hitting to the right or to the left. This helps batters time their swing and improve their hitting accuracy.
