A good way to bait the quarterback when you are at cornerback, is to act like you are beat by a wide receiver. If you are fast enough and have quick recovery speed this will help you tremendously. Give the receiver a one way go to the outside and let him get a leg on you like he has beat you. If the quarterback throws to the wide receiver, use your speed to catch up and intercept the ball or knock it down.

Work on press-bail coverage technique as well. This means acting like you are going to press the wide receiver at the line and then bailing out or dropping off the receiver quickly when the ball is snapped to put space between you and the receiver. This will force the quarterback into a bad throw.

If you are safety, work on rolling the coverage after the play starts. A quarterback always looks at the safeties to see what coverage the defense is in. If you are in your coverage before the play starts, he will know what coverage you are in and have the upper hand. So work on disguising your coverage until the play is about to start.

Work on showing the quarterback different looks than what you intend to do once the ball is snapped. If you know you are going to be blitzing the quarterback, then stay back like you are going to be in coverage and then as the ball is being snapped blitz him. Or if you are going to be in coverage in an intermediate to short passing area, fake like you are about to blitz and when the ball is snapped bail out to your coverage responsibility.
