How to Become an Athletic Coach
Instructions

1
Get involved with a particular sport, or sports. It is best to get involved at a young age and stick with a particular discipline, but for an athletic coach, you should familiarize yourself with a wide array of athletics.
-
2
Sign up for all classes relating to physical education in high school. In high school, these classes can be referred to as Phys. Ed. and may encompass many athletic disciplines, such as weight training, aerobics, gymnastics, intramural sports, football, baseball, track and field, and soccer.
-
3
Speak with a career guidance counselor before attending college. A counselor can help with planning a curriculum that revolves around athletics, with the ultimate goal of becoming a coach after college. Ensure that you take a variety of athletic instruction courses while in college.
-
4
Apply for a teaching or coaching job with a local school, or community athletic program. Some outlets for coaching could be a local YMCA or health and fitness club. If you've studied a particular discipline, volunteer for coaching events. This can eventually lead to a full-time coaching job later on, or develop leads to point you in that direction.
