1
Consider earning an undergraduate degree. To improve your chances of finding a position as a running coach, you should have an associate's or bachelor's degree in exercise science or a related major.
-
2
Gain running experience. Potential clients will want to know what sort of running experience you have. Enter well-known marathons, such as the New York City Marathon. Clients are going to want to know about how well you performed in running events and about any accolades you have won. You can also include any previous track team experience and track awards on your resume to show your running know-how.
-
3
Receive certifications as a way to enhance your credentials. There are certain certification programs that can provide training to people interested in becoming running coaches. For instance, Road Runners Club of America has nationwide running coach certification programs.
-
4
Apply to organizations that may hire a running coach. At first, you probably won't want to branch out on your own. Instead, apply for open running coach positions at fitness centers, schools and running clubs. After a few years, you may want to consider working as a personal running coach.
