How to Become a Pro Soccer Coach

Soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. It's no wonder that so many people want to become a pro soccer coaches. However, it's hard work: you'll need to create plays, training schedules and manage your teams' challenges. Of course before you can do this you need to get offered a job. Here's how you can become a pro soccer coach.

      Start by coaching as a volunteer at a local soccer league. You might coach an AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) or through the local high school. This will give you some experience coaching players and learning the rules. Most importantly, you will learn if you enjoy coaching. Then you can move on to Step 2.

      Get your coaching license. You can get your license by signing up for a course through the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaching Association of America). This organization offers 3 levels of licenses: A, B and C. Typically, a pro coach will have an A or B license. College coaches can have any of the 3.

      Look for opportunities to get into a pro soccer organization. You might have to work part-time or volunteer at first. Your goal should be to get experience with a pro national soccer organization. Once you're in, you can build your way up to coach, or head coach.
