      Be able to play the game of golf. In most cases the certification courses require a minimum golf course score to be certified as a golf coach. A potential coach does not have to be an elite level player but must exhibit passable talent on the course.

      Choose between opening a stand alone coaching school or be employed at an existing school or course. Each have their merits. Owning a business gives a person a certain flexibility but less income certainty. Where as the opposite is true when working for someone else. Also some certification courses cater to either option. So factor this information in when choosing a certification option.

      Call the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) for references to coaching certification schools. While their list is not the absolute in terms of viable golf schools it is definitely a starting point to be sure.

      Select a certification course or school. The course content and price can vary between programs. It is important to determine exactly what the outcome should be after attaining certification. Does the coach want to train children, seniors, high school aged kids or just anyone who walks through the door.
