Hard Volleyball Drills

Hard volleyball drills will help a volleyball player in many ways. With these drills, players of any age can work on their hand-eye coordination, accuracy, strength, footwork and team work. There are many different drills including hitting, spiking, bumping, serving and intense footwork drills.
  1. Corner Killer Drill

    • Set up cones in all four corners of the volleyball court, on both sides. Divide players into two groups, one group on each side in a single-file line behind the serving spot. The goal is to knock down the other sides’ cones first. Another way to run this hard volleyball drill would be to allow all the girls to serve until the cones are all down. However, if the drill is run this way, it is important to reiterate the importance of correct form and not just getting as many serves over the other side as quickly as possible.

    Burn

    • This hard volleyball drill is used to improve players’ skills and accuracy in finding an open area and open defender during play. The coach tosses a ball to the outside hitter. The outside hitter approaches the net and listens to the next player in line, who tells her if the defender is inside or outside. The hitter decides whether to tip over the head of the defender (if the defender is short) or tip short if the defender is deep.

    Conditioning Drill

    • Another hard volleyball drill is a conditioning drill. This is good for improving cardiovascular stamina and accuracy, and it teaches players to pay attention to movement on the other side. The players are split into two groups, one on each side of the net. Both sides are within the 10-foot line. The coach tosses the volleyball into the court, and play starts. Every time a player touches the ball, he must run to the end line, touch it and run back.
