USA Volleyball Drills

Beginner
-
The Toss and Pass drill for beginners uses two players. Player one tosses the ball to player two. Then player two passes the ball back to player one using the proper technique for passing. This drill works to improve the player's passing skills which is important in game play.
The Wall Hitting drill is a single player drill and can be performed just about anywhere a wall is available. The player chooses a spot on the wall and tries to hit that spot on the wall with various arm swings. This drill is great for building accuracy, and you can do this drill alone. All beginner drills are also perfect for seasoned players in maintaining and improving these skills.
Spike
-
For players to work on their spike, the Team Approach Jumps assist the volleyball team in improving this skill. With this drill, the team forms a line on the sideline. The first player in line will approach the net as if she intends to spike a ball. Then, the first player will fall back from the net, and re-approach the net for the spike, making a zig zag pattern until the player reaches the other sideline. All of the players follow the same process until everyone is on the opposite side of the volleyball court. This drill works on improving the footwork required for the spike shot.
Blocking
-
Blocking is very important in volleyball games to prevent the other team from scoring. The Mirror Blocking drill is used to perfect the teams' blocking technique. This drill uses two blockers, placing one player on each side of the net. The first player will perform a blocking technique, and the second player tries to mirror the movement, duplicating the same blocking technique. This drill forces the players to concentrate on proper form while blocking.
