Get the right gear. Wear padded shorts, a bike jersey and clip-in shoes that are compatible with the pedals on the spin bikes in your gym.

    • 2

Make sure your bike is set up properly. Show up to the spin class a few minutes early and ask the instructor to help you with adjustments to the seat and handle bars.

    • 3

Do a test ride to get a feel for the bike. You should be aware of the scale of difficulty between the bike's lowest tension setting, to the highest amount of tension you can add before it's impossible to pedal.

Begin each song in spin class by finding the right amount of tension on the fly wheel that enables to ride with the beat in the music. Listen for further coaching from the instructor. No spinning classes? Check out the Resources section for tips to create your own workout on the spin bike.
