How to String a Lacrosse Goal
Things You'll Need
- Lacrosse goal
- Lacrosse goal net
- Heavy string or fasteners (zip ties/Velcro strips also)
Instructions
-
Using string
-
1
Align the top corners of both the goal and the net, as well as the back end of the base. Lacrosse nets usually have the edges lined with thick industrial nylon or canvas where the net makes contact with the goal. There are often two nylon spines running from the two top corners to the back of the base, forming a tent.
-
2
Pull the top portion of the net taut across the top pipe of the goal, making sure the net is properly reaching from corner to corner across the top pipe. Be sure the net is flat along the outside edge of the goal and not on the inside edges of the goal where it may interfere with game play.
-
3
Let out about 20 feet of string. Pick a top corner and thread the string through the net and around the pipe several times, tying the end off securely with a knot.
-
4
Pull the length of the string through the mesh netting and weave it through every other hole in the mesh loosely. It helps to keep the leading end of your string in a compact ball so you can easily feed the ball through the mesh, as opposed to stringing 20 feet of string through each hole.
-
5
After you have woven the string through the mesh and around the top pipe, begin tightening the string from your starting point, keeping it tight and pulling the slack through at every chance until the net is firmly attached along the length of the top pipe.
-
6
Continue this all the way around the goal, including the base, until you reach the corner where you started. To speed things up, get two people to start in the same corner, working in opposite direction. The pipes should have a nice, even candy-cane pattern of string running the length of the goal.
Using fasteners or zip ties
-
7
Align the top corners of both the goal and the net, as well as the back end of the base.
-
8
Pull the top portion of the net taut across the top pipe of the goal, making sure the net is properly fitted from corner to corner across the top pipe. Be sure the net is flat along the outside edge of the goal and not on the inside edges of the goal where it may interfere with game play.
-
9
Using the fasteners, Velcro strips or zip ties, fasten the net into one corner of the goal putting one fastener along the horizontal pipe and a second fastener on the vertical pipe to give support.
-
10
Pull the net taut along the top beam and attach a fastener in every third mesh hole. Place fasteners all the way around the goal until the net is securely fastened. Be sure to keep everything very tight and even.
