Coaches' Responsiblities & Duties
-
Organize Team Schedules
-
A coach works with an athletic director to organize the team's schedule for the season. He then meets with players and sometimes parents to discuss the schedule. Coaches also adjust the schedule when necessary with the athletic director's approval.
Administrative Duties
-
Coaches prepare the budget for the team, order new equipment, make arrangements for out-of-town games, make sure athletes are in shape for the games, monitor the academic progress of athletes and supervise assistant coaches.
Training Athletes
-
Coaches hold tryouts, train athletes in the sport, discipline them when they misbehave, suggest methods for improving their skills and oversee practice sessions.
Motivation Outside Athletics
-
Sometimes athletes face personal problems that affect their athletic performance negatively. In these cases, a coach serves as a mentor by standing by them and encouraging them to stay positive despite the circumstances.
Reward Athletes
-
Throughout the season, coaches hand out awards to athletes who performed exceptionally well and helped the team win games. The awards typically are in the form of certificates, trophies or plaques.
