How to Create a 10-Team Round-Robin Schedule

By using a round-robin tournament schedule you are able to host a wide variety of competitive events. This mode of tournament allows for all contestants to match up against all others in a clear, systematic manner. The round-robin tournament scheme remains a simple and effective method of competition.

Instructions

      Assign all 10 contestants a number from 1 to 10.

      Make a table with two rows and five columns.

      Place the first contestant at the top left. Then write each contestant in order (2, 3, etc.) from left to right for the first row. At the end of the first row move down for contestant #6 and fill the row to the left (#1 vs #10).

      Write down the matchups for the first round.

      Fix contestant #1 in the upper-left hand corner for the second round.

      Shift every other competitor clockwise. Contestant #2 will go to #3's spot, and continue this clockwise for both rows. The matchups will be: 1-5, 10-6, 2-7, 3-8, 4-9.

      Complete the schedule for all nine rounds of the competition.
