How to Bungee Jump Safely

1
Purchase quality equipment. The old saying of "you get what you pay for" is true when considering bungee jumping equipment. Examine the ratings and reviews of various brands and types of bungee cords. Pay attention to these same things when purchasing harnesses. Even if they are a bit more expensive, your safety is worth it.
-
2
Jump at safe locations. Do not choose locations that are too low, too busy or just unsafe, generally. Be smart about where you're going to jump. If nobody has ever bungee jumped from the location before, you shouldn't, either. Consult your local bungee jumping club for safe locations.
-
3
Examine your equipment. Replace your equipment if it shows wear and tear. Don't risk your life by thinking that a raveling cord will sustain "just one more jump." If your harness shows wear, get another one. Hook up your equipment and harness correctly. Double check it!
-
4
Take people with you. It's just like swimming, you should never go alone. In the case that something accidental does occur, you need to have someone along to call or go for help. You also need this other person to help get you back up after you've made your jump.
-
5
Teach your jumping partner about their role. Don't just think they know what to do or what to expect. Tell them! Explain to them how to help you get back up, how to help prepare for the jump, what things to look out for and what to do if something goes wrong.
-
6
Think safety first. If you think an element of your jump is going to be a risk, don't do it. Always be safe and leave the stunts for professionals.
-
7
Know what you're doing. If you are inexperienced, take lessons. Read books. Watch videos. Don't go into a jump uninformed.
