Pek Kwar Fighting Techniques

Pek Kwar, or Monkey Kung Fu, is a clandestine and rare martial arts fighting style. Pek Kwar focuses on techniques involving the upper body, like hand strikes, blocks and punches. Low-stance offensive training helps you learn the movements of your opponent as you seek an opening in his defense. This article will examine other techniques of the Pek Kwar fighting system and provide some insight of the origin of this traditional martial art.
  1. History

    • Pek Kwar is one of many names given to style of martial art known in the west as Monkey Kung Fu. Its origins can be traced as far back as the sixteenth century. Like most original animal fighting systems designed by the monks of Shaolin, it emulates the defensive behaviors of its namesake. There are two major systems, but about five fighting styles, that derived from this truly fluent style of fighting.

    The Drunken Monkey Technique

    • The style that has gotten much recognition from TV and film has been the Drunken Monkey style.
Though it has been portrayed in movies as a comedic art form, this style is very powerful and the hardest to learn of all five forms. This technique consists of deceptive strikes and kicks out of a low stance. It also incorporate rolls and thrusts with punch combinations. The kicks and punches of PekWar are elusive and hard to grab hold of. This style of Monkey Kung fu relies on counterattacks aligned with hand strikes of deadly precision. The origin of its name the Drunken Monkey derives from the unpredictable acrobatics of this form, giving the manifestation of drunkenness.

    The Stone Monkey Technique

    • The "Stone Monkey" fighting style is used in a short-distance scenario. It involves exchanging and absorbing blows with your opponent. It is regarded as an external form because it is a style that requires a higher exertion of physical strength than the other four forms. Most who train in this style are conditioned to be physically stronger. Most of the training required to master this style is primarily focused on making your body resistant to the blows from your opponent while exchanging strikes of your own.

    The Lost Monkey Technique

    • The "Lost Monkey" style incorporates the swiftness of a monkey's movement. The punches and kicks in this style are designed to throw your opponent off balance. The strikes are executed in coordination with the footwork in deceptive but explosive precision, making it almost impossible to detect in a fighting situation.

    The Standing Monkey

    • The "Standing Monkey" technique was designed for tall students and required training in the long-form traditions of punching and kicking. They resemble the monkey's wild and unpredictable striking.

    The Wooden Monkey

    • The "Wooden" Monkey training prepares the student to aggressively attack the opponent. Multiple controlled kicks and punches, followed by throws, make your opponent defenseless.
