How to Build a Snowboard

The most vital part to participating in the sport of snowboarding is your snowboard, and though there are many types to choose from, some people would rather build their own than buy one. Instructions

  1. Build a Snowboard

    • 1

Choose the type of snowboard you would like to ride. There are three main types of boards, which include Freeride or All-Mountain snowboards. Freestyle snowboards and alpine, carving or race snowboards. The Freeride or All-Mountain snowboards are the most popular. The Freestyle board is wider, more stable and more forgiving to ride than the other boards while also being short. The alpine is longer, and more thin than the other boards, and is mainly built for racing.

    • 2

Draw the outlining of the shape of the snowboard you would like to make on your 4-by-8 foot slab of wood. You can outline it with an existing board to make it easier if you would like.

    • 3

Use the table saw to cut your outline exactly in the style of how you want your board. Cut the board in all one piece starting at the top of the board, and cut it in the outline in the style of the board you would like.

    • 4

Sand the board with the electric sander until the wood is smooth. Make sure there aren't any jagged edges. This really affects how your board rides down the hill.

    • 5

Stand on the board and figure out where your feet feel the best. Then screw in five screws per boot. Screw the middle part of the sole of the boot, then screw to top right, top left, bottom right and bottom left of the boot.

Design the exterior of the board however you would like using a glossy waterproof paint that will hold the best on the hill.
