How to Make Homemade Organic Surf Wax
-
1
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. The water should fill about half the pot. When it reaches a rolling boil, lower the heat and allow to simmer.
-
2
Wrap the beeswax in a cheesecloth. Tie the corners of the cheese cloth together with a hair tie to create a sort of bag.
-
3
Lower the the cheesecloth-wrapped beeswax into the boiling water with tongs. Using the tongs to hold the cheesecloth, allow the wax to melt inside, and twist the cloth to press the wax out of it. Raw beeswax is full of impurities like dead bees that need to be filtered out.
-
4
Remove the boiling water from the heat and allow to cool whence all the clean wax has been pressed from the cheesecloth.
-
5
Collect the solid chunks of beeswax after the water has cooled completely. The wax should all float to the top when it is cool. Dump the water; it is no longer needed.
-
6
Heat the pot over low heat. Place the wax in the pot and stir until it is completely melted.
-
7
Constantly stir the melted wax as you slowly mix in the coconut oil at a ratio of 3 grams of beeswax to 1 milliliter of coconut oil. Continue stirring until completely combined.
-
8
Ladle the hot liquid into a muffin tin or Dixie cups.
-
9
Allow to cool for at least two hours. Knock the wax out of the mold, rub it on your board, and go surfing.
