1
Make a cardboard stencil for the sides of the ramp. The sides of kicker ramps normally have an L-shape design with an elongated base that starts with a gentle slope that curves up to roughly an 80-degree angle. An adequately sized BMX kicker should have a base that is 3 to 4 feet long and a height of 2 to 3 feet.
-
2
Trace the stencil twice on plywood and then cut out the patterns using a jigsaw. The two pieces you cut out will be used to make the sides of the kicker ramp.
-
3
Saw 2x4 wooden planks into two 3-foot-long blocks, five 2-foot-long blocks and two 4-foot-long blocks.
-
4
Nail the 3-foot-long blocks to two of the 2-foot-long blocks to form an L shape.
-
5
Nail the L-shape blocks to the plywood ramp sides with the 3-foot-long blocks running along the base. This will help form the skeleton of the ramp.
-
6
Connect the sides of the ramp by nailing the other three 2-foot-long blocks to the L shape on the ramp sides. Nail the first block to the back of the base of the L shape. Nail the second block directly above the first at the top of the L shape. Nail the third block to the front of the base of the L shape.
-
7
Form the angle for the kicker ramp using the 4-foot-long blocks. Nail one of the blocks to bottom of the L shape along the edge where the ramp will begin. Nail the other block to the top of the L shape along the edge where the ramp will end.
-
8
Lay a 2x4 sheet of plywood on the ramp against the angle you just made using the 4-foot-long blocks. Nail the plywood to the angle blocks.
-
9
Trim the plywood using the jigsaw so it is the correct size for the ramp.
-
10
Glue the edges of the plywood to the edges of the ramp using wood glue. This will help to prevent the ramp from splintering.
