How to Remove Bike Pegs

Pegs on a bicycle are used to perform tricks on rails and other obstacles that otherwise would not be possible without the pegs. If tricks are not what you want to do with your bicycle, you may want to remove your pegs. After following a few steps, with the use of a few tools, your bicycle can be free of pegs and ready to ride normally.

Instructions

  1. Removing Hollow Pegs

    • 1

Attach the 13/15mm socket to an extended socket wrench that is long enough to reach inside of your hollow peg.

    • 2

Insert the extended socket wrench into the peg until it is around the bolt on the inside of the peg. Turn the wrench counter clockwise until the bolt comes out of the peg.

    • 3

Remove the peg and reinsert the bolt by turning it clockwise until it is hand tight. Do not over tighten.

    • 4

Repeat steps 1-3 for the remaining pegs.

    Removing Solid Pegs

    • 5

Attach a pair of channel lock pliers around the solid peg and twist counter clockwise to remove the peg. Remove all of the pegs.

    • 6

Remove all of the pegs using the same method as step one.

    • 7

Replace the pegs with the right sized bolts which should be 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch bolts.
