Ramp Construction
-
1
Using a ball-point pen or marker, draw the plans for your ramp on plywood. The ramp face and back panel should be drawn on 1/4-inch plywood and the sides on 1/2-inch plywood.
-
2
With a jigsaw, cut out the shapes drawn on the plywood. Be careful to make the side panels exactly the same to minimize warping of the ramp face.
-
3
Cut one 2-by-4 section for every four inches of the length of the ramp face. These sections should be one inch shorter than the width of the ramp to accommodate the 1/2-inch plywood side panels.
-
4
Screw the 2-by-4 sections into the side panels along the ramp face edge. They should be oriented vertically along the edge to add strength to the ramp face.
-
5
Screw the ramp face into the 2-by-4 sections and the 1/2-inch plywood. Use as many screws as necessary to hold the ramp face on the transition.
-
6
Screw the ramp's back panel into the 1/2-inch plywood side panels to cover the back side of the ramp.
Dirt Ramp Setup
-
7
Using a tape, measure the ramp base's length and width.
-
8
Use a shovel to remove a section of dirt where the ramp will be placed. This area should be one inch lower than the ground around it, and the same length and width as the ramp.
-
9
Place the ramp where the dirt was removed. Be sure that it fits snugly and does not rock or wobble when weighted. If the ramp moves unnecessarily, remove the ramp and level the ground before continuing.
-
10
With the ramp in place, cover it with a thick layer of moist dirt, and allow the dirt to dry. When dry, cover the ramp with a second layer of dirt.
-
11
Stand on the ramp to ensure it is structurally sound. When satisfied, take the first test jump.
