How to Use an RK Chain Breaker

The RK chain breaker tool is designed to cut 40- and 50-series chains using a steel cutting pin. Along with cutting chains, it can press-fit 50- and 60-series sealed chains. The chain tool works by driving a steel pin through the chain via a screwing mechanism. Beyond press-fit style chains, the RK is also a rivet tool, which allows it to remove and re-insert rivets into rivet-type connecting links. Considered to be a heavy-duty chain breaker for use on thick motorcycle chains, it comes with three different size flare pins and two cutter adapters, making it a flexible tool for both small and large chains.

    • 1

Choose the appropriate adapter for your chain type, whether it is a rivet type or press-fit, and place it on the upper inside of the tool.

    • 2

Place the chain within the tool, ensuring that the adapter remains in place and is lined up with the rivet or press pin.

    • 3

Screw the cutting pin down until in begins to make contact with the section of chain.

    • 4

Turn the push screw through the chain using a wrench until the rivet or push pin is removed.

    • 5

Press the pin or rivet through the top of the chain to reconnect the chain, using the same downward screwing motion on the cutting pin.
