Mongoose bicycles are a brand of BMX bicycle. BMX (bicycle motocross) is a professional sport that uses bicycles that are shorter than mountain bikes and have pegs extending from the front and back tires for foot and hand placements in order to do tricks. The Mongoose was introduced to the BMX industry in 1975 by Skip Hess. Model numbers are used to separate and categorize Mongoose bikes and to make ordering parts or decals easier.
