Instructions

  1. Removing the Sprocket from a BMX Bicycle

    • 1

Find a hex wrench that fits into the bolt that is on the opposite side of the crank. You will find the crank between the pedals and the bolt will be opposite the crank. Try different sizes of hex wrenches until you find one that fits snugly inside the bolt.

    • 2

Remove the bolt that is on the opposite side of the crank with the hex wrench. Turn the wrench counter-clockwise to remove the bolt. Wear rubber gloves if you do not want to get oil or grease on your hands. Remove the crank by pulling it directly off of the bottom bracket and spindle, which is the metal piece that the pedals are on.

    • 3

Remove the nut that is directly behind the crank just removed by using a large wrench or vise-grips.

    • 4

Unscrew the bolt that is behind the nut that was just removed. If the bolt is stuck, use a hammer and flat-head screw-driver to stick between the bolt and the bearing seal behind it and hammer the screw-driver between the bolt and the bearing seal to loosen the bolt. Remove the bolt.

    • 5

Remove the bearing seal, the other side of the crank and the bearings by unbolting the nuts that are holding them in. Unbolt the nuts by turning them counter clockwise with a wrench. Remove the sprocket by pulling it off of the spindle attached to the frame.
