How to Jump a Motorcross Dirt Bike

1
Approach the jump riding your bike in the standing position. Crouch down, using your legs to squeeze the bike, as this will keep you in better balance and keep the bike in line as you approach the ramp for your jump.
-
2
Choose your path to the jump and get your speed before you reach the ramp. Once you have chosen a path, keep the bike steady so the rear wheel does not kick out as you approach the jump. By having your speed built up prior to hitting the ramp, you won't have to hit the accelerator as you hit the jump, which can cause the bike to become unsettled and wreak havoc on your jump attempt.

3
Check out your landing area as you fly through the air and make adjustments to your bike as necessary. If you are landing on a flat surface, you will want to land with the rear wheel coming down first. If you are landing on a down ramp, you will want to land at the same angle as the ramp, with both wheels hitting simultaneously. To get the rear wheel to come down first, pull back on the handle bars, which will raise the front wheel of your bike. To get the front wheel to come down, rev the engine, causing the back wheel to turn, which will cause the front wheel to drop.

4
Hit the gas just before you hit the ground. Giving your motocross bike gas just prior to landing will help the rear suspension on your bike absorb the impact, while giving you drive away speed from the ramp.
