How to Land a Short Fall in Parkour

Parkour practitioners should gradually increase the intensity of their training and the difficulty of the jumps and falls to prevent injuries. Before you can jump off an object, practice jumping and landing from the ground. Once you have mastered the proper techniques, practice jumping off low objects, such as a bottom stair. If you are a newcomer to parkour, focus on strengthening your muscles and increasing your cardiovascular endurance. Enlist a veteran parkour practitioner to teach you new moves.

Instructions

    • 1

Get into the proper position to land. Your legs should stay below your body at all times during a short fall. Keep your body relaxed and your upper body balanced evenly over your legs. Do not tilt your upper body forward or backward excessively. If you feel off-balanced, you are leaning too far forward or backward.

    • 2

Bend your legs slightly as you drop. Keep the balls of your feet angled downward slightly so that you will not touch down with your heels. Keep your body relaxed.

    • 3

Land on the ground with the balls of your feet; never land on the heels. Allow your legs to bend farther as soon as you touch down. Do not allow them to bend farther than a 90-degree angle. Keep your joints relaxed.

    • 4

Stand up and continue your run once the shock of the impact dissipates and you feel balanced.

    • 5

Move forward naturally onto your hands if your knees are in danger of bending farther than 90 degrees. Once you have stopped falling, push off the ground with your hands and legs and continue your run.
