The KT100 is a two-stroke engine. It is a single-cylinder engine that contains a piston port. Its displacement is 97.6 cc and it has a free-air cooling system. Its dry weight is 21 lbs. It contains a Walboro WB-3A carburetor. The KT100 produces 16 to 20 horsepower, depending upon the engine setup. Its bore and stroke is 52 mm by 46 mm. The engine can be configured for clutch or direct drive and is also configured for an auxiliary start.

Due to the KT100's two-stroke engine, it is necessary to mix the gasoline with oil. The recommended oil by Yamaha is Yamalube 2R. The appropriate ration of gasoline to Yamalube 2R is 20-to-1.The KT100 is designed to run on unleaded gasoline only.
