How Often Should You Rewax a Snowboard?

Waxing is an essential part of maintaining your snowboard. Waxing a snowboard helps to ensure that you can glide and manipulate it with ease. While there is no exact timetable for when you should wax your snowboard, a few reliable indicators give you an idea of when you need to consider putting your board on a bench, heating up your iron, getting out the wax and giving your board a fresh wax job.

Wax your snowboard when the weather changes. Get out your waxing kit if the temperature outside drops from 30 degrees to 15 or rises from -10 to 20. Consider waxing also if you receive heavy snowfall overnight or if thick, crunchy snow becomes thin and powdery.

Wax your snowboard whenever you notice that its base appears dry. Look for thin white lines or circles around the edges of a drying base. Waxing a snowboard with a dry base helps to protect it against damage from ultraviolet rays.

Warm your board before waxing it. Carry your board inside if you have left it out all night in a garage that is not heated or the back of your vehicle. Keep it inside for at least an hour before you begin your wax job. Use a space heater, hair dryer or a warm towel to speed up the work of heating your board.
