How to Fix Shoelaces for a Skater

For extreme-sports participants like skateboarders, having a securely tied shoelace means the difference between safely enjoying the sport you love and falling to the ground, facing an injury. Always check your shoes before stepping onto your skateboard to ensure they're securely tied and will not get in the way. Extreme sports are all about living on the brink and taking a chance, but without proper preparation a simple mistake could take away the adrenaline rush and result in a catastrophic injury.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop the skateboard and sit down. Completely untie the shoe.

    • 2

Grasp the shoelaces and put the left lace over and under the right lace. Pull it tight. The left lace should now be in your right hand and vice versa.

    • 3

Make a loop with the right lace in your right hand and place the left lace around and behind the right lace loop. Wrap the left lace around the right lace loop. When this step is done, you should have the looped right lace in the right hand and the left lace in the left hand.

    • 4

Feed the left lace into the hole made from the right lace and the left lace intersecting; that is, put the left lace into the bottom hole -- not the loop created only by the right lace above. Pinch the left lace in your fingers and simultaneously pull the right loop in the opposite direction. This motion will tighten both laces and create a standard shoelace knot that will not come undone while skating again. Pull the knot tightly.
