How to Lace Straight Lines for Skateboarding Shoes

Skateboard shoes need to stand up to vigorous wear and tear without getting caught in the wheels. By straight lacing your skate shoes, you can stay safe and look good doing it. The laces in this method of tying your shoes helps keep them secure while making it easier to keep the tied end out of the way of the wheels. If there is a safety issue or accident, medical personnel can easily cut or slide off the shoe to access the injury.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the shoe with the toe facing away from you, as though you were putting it on. Push the shoelace 1/3 of the way through the first bottom hole, from the outside to the inside part of the shoe. The end of the lace should be inside the shoe with the tongue.

    • 2

Thread the longer lace through the first hole on the opposite side of the skate shoe, again pushing it from the outside to the inside, making a straight line across the shoe. The lace on one side will still be considerably longer on one side than the other.

    • 3

Maneuver the shorter side of the shoelace, along the underside of the holes on the same side, and pull it through the topmost hole of the shoe. Shorten the shoelace if it looks too long, as the opposite lace requires a considerable length to complete the pattern.

    • 4

Work the longer shoelace underneath to the second hole on the same side and pull it up from the underside of the hole. Pull it across to the second hole on the opposite side and push it from the outside of the hole to the inside of the shoe. Repeat this step until you reach this top of the shoe.

Adjust the length of the laces to even them out. Tie the skateboard shoe in your preferred method and you are done.
