How to Wear Skateboard Shoes

1
Choose a skateboard shoe with the right features to support your intended purpose for wearing the shoe. Different styles of shoes hold up better against the rough use that comes from skateboarding.
-
2
Choose a shoe based on appearance rather than function if you will only be wearing them for regular use. If you are wearing them for skateboarding, then you should choose a shoe that is made of a sturdy material and that has thick soles and triple stitching.
-
3
Try on different sizes and styles of shoes to ensure a proper fit on your foot. Even if you think you know your shoe size, some shoes may be made differently than others. A proper fit is comfortable with enough freedom to move, but tight enough to reduce the risk of injury from a shoe flying off in the middle of a skateboarding trick.

4
Lace your shoes so that your shoelaces will not get caught in the skateboard's wheels or cause you to trip. Some skateboarders don't tie their laces but lace them and tuck the ends inside of the shoe. If you tie your laces, be sure the loops are short enough so they don't get caught on your board.
-
5
Choose a lacing method like the Hidden Knot, in which you cross-lace your shoes, then tie a knot close to the last eyelet and tuck it behind the tongue of your shoe. When it comes to putting the laces into your shoes, the technique is up to you, but there are several methods like this you can try.
