How to Wear a Skateboard Wrist Protector

Protective equipment is important for most sports, and skateboarding is no exception. Skateboarders don't always wear protective equipment, but in top competitions, skaters wear helmets, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist protectors. Each piece of equipment is designed to protect the skateboarder's body in an accident. Wrist protectors help prevent broken wrists as well as abrasions during a crash.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the wrist protector designed for your left hand. It likely will be marked with "Left" or "L" on the label.

    • 2

Position the wrist protector so that its thumb hole is on the right side, or the same side as your thumb. This will mean that the piece of hard plastic on the protector is facing downward.

    • 3

Loosen the protector's Velcro straps to allow it to open wide enough to slide around your wrist.

    • 4

Slide the left wrist protector over your fingertips and place your thumb through the thumb hole. Once you have slid it into position, the plastic panel will cover your palm and wrist.

    • 5

Tighten the wrist protector by pulling the Velcro straps shut. Do not overtighten them, because you may reduce blood circulation in your hand and fingers. Ensure the Velcro is tight enough to keep the wrist protector firmly in position.

    • 6

Repeat this process to place the right-side wrist protector into position.
