The first step in choosing bowling shoes is to decide on your style. Are you going for a retro bowling shoe look, a classic look, or a hot shoe that will make you the envy of the bowling alley? Are you a serious bowler who wants to look professional or are you just into the look of the rental shoe and want to take that style to the street? Doe you need a universal shoe or are you looking for a high performance shoe with slides that you can change to fit your game?

You will need to decide where you would like to buy the shoe. Will you be shopping for your bowling shoe online? This option will allow you a wider variety of styles and more competitive prices and is best for the casual bowler. If you are a serious bowler, I would suggest going to your local pro shop so that you can try on the shoe. Your styles will be limited but you will be able to feel how the shoes will fit your feet and how you will be able to bowl in them.

Are you a right handed or left handed bowler? Some bowling shoes are universal, meaning they are made for either the left or right handed bowler. These will be the bowling shoes to choose if you are a casual bowler. The more serious bowler will look for a high performance shoe. For the most part, bowling shoes are made to accommodate the right handed bowler with more of a slide on the bottom of the left foot and a traction sole for the right foot. The slide is often times a feature that you can change depending on your game. On a serious shoe, the slide is Velcro on the bottom of the shoe. It can be taken off and replaced depending on how much of a slide your game requires. The slides are available on a scale ranging from one to ten with ten being the highest level of slide. The heal is often times also adjustable to your gaming needs. You can choose a break heel if you want more of a break.
