How to Use Ramps

Whether you're a skateboarder, BMX rider or roller blader, ramps are an effective way to perform a variety of tricks that you wouldn't normally be able to perform on flat land. Ramps come in a wide variety of makes and models and can be made out of wood, plastic, concrete or even metal. Using a ramp is a matter of balance and approach, and getting used to using a ramp in your trick run may take a little practice to get used to.

Instructions

  1. Skateboard

    • 1

Approach the ramp at a comfortable speed.

    • 2

Crouch down and bend your knees before you hit the ramp.

    • 3

Prevent yourself from leaning forwards or backwards once you hit the ramp. You want to keep your center of balance upright the whole way through.

Press down on the tail of your board while simultaneously sliding your front foot up just before you get to the lip of the ramp to pop up off of the ramp.

    • 5

Land with both of your feet square on the board.

    BMX

    • 6

Approach the ramp at a comfortable speed.

    • 7

Crouch down and square off your feet on the pedals as you hit the ramp.

    • 8

Pull up on the handle bars while simultaneously pressing down and lifting up on the pedals in a standing position as you approach the lip of the ramp.

    • 9

Square off your feet on the pedals as you land to brace for the impact of landing.
