How to Build Ramps Easily

Building ramps for skateboarding and BMX bikes remains a difficult task for the inexperienced ramp builder. Professionally built ramps used for extreme sports require an abundance of supplies including sheets of Masonite, electric drills, and varying sizes of screws. Certain easy ramp building techniques can help the novice ramp builder to construct a simple yet sturdy ramp with little to no cost. Creating the simple design of the kick ramp and bank ramp only requires one piece of standard sized plywood.

  • Large log
  • 1-by-2 foot piece of sheet metal, 2

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the piece of plywood down the middle to create two identical 4-by-4 foot pieces. Lay the wooden log horizontally on a paved driveway or cemented area. Place one of the 4-by-4 foot pieces against the wooden log to create a ramp with an incline.

    • 2

Hammer four nails through the top of the plywood and into the wooden log, spreading the nails out 12 inches apart. Hammer the nails closer together if the log has a length shorter than 4 feet.

    • 3

Slide two cinder blocks under the inclined ramp of the plywood to ensure the ramp has a stable face. Lay one piece of the sheet metal at the bottom of the inclined plywood to permit a smooth run up for the kick ramp.

    • 4

Stack three cinder blocks on top of each other and rotate them so they face in a horizontal direction. Measure 4 feet away from the stack of three cinder blocks. Stack three more cinder blocks 4 feet away from the first stack of 3 cinder blocks.

    • 5

Lay the remaining piece of plywood against the two stacks of cinder blocks to create the steep inclined face of the bank ramp. Place the two remaining cinder blocks under the inclined plywood of the bank ramp to ensure the ramp will support your weight. Place the metal sign horizontally at the bottom of the bank ramp.

    • 6

Roll up the newly made kick ramp and bank ramp to ensure both of the ramps have been built correctly.
