Bearing Cleanse
-
Each of the skateboard wheels house two ball bearings. When skating on a wet terrain, your bearings may retain moisture and eventually rust. Utilize the bearing removal knob on the skateboard tool to dislodge the bearings. Remove the plastic shields to expose the internal balls. Rub down the bearings with soft cotton cloth. Bones Bearings recommends using an environmentally friendly cleaner that can dissolve oil as well as grease. Apply the cleansing agent to the bearings. Dry the bearings and replace the shields.
Wheel Rotation
-
A rough-riding terrain will wear down the urethane construction of the skateboarding wheel. Rotating your wheels on a regular basis will ensure your skateboard rolls straight. Loosen the wheel bolts using the corresponding head of the skate tool. Examine the skate wheels to determine which edges have deteriorated. Rotate the skateboard wheels and reposition them on the trucks. Tighten the bolts using the head of the skateboard tool. Directly after the wheel rotation, your skateboard may not roll straight. The wheels should right themselves after a few days.
Grip Tape Application
-
The grip tape refers to the sandpaper-like material that has been applied to the top of the skateboard deck. A quick way to improve the function of the skateboard involves applying a new sheet of grip tape. Peel away the old grip tape from the skateboard deck. Remove the paper backing from the new sheet of tape. Lay the grip tape over the deck starting at the nose. Rub the edges of the deck using a file. Warehouse Skateboards recommends removing the excess grip tape with a utility knife.
Bushing Replacement
-
The bushings protect the king pin of the skateboard truck. Know How To Skateboard states that the truck bushings generally have a soft rubber construction. The bushings may crack due to high impact tricks. Loosen the center bolt of the trucks using the appropriate head of the skateboard tool. Pull off the truck truck hanger and remove the old bushings. Place the large bushing at the base of the trucks. Align the hanger over the bottom bushing. Position the small bushing over the hanger. Tighten the center bolts to complete the project.
