How to Grease Skateboard Bearings

Every skateboard has eight bearings total, two in each of the board's four wheels. Greasing your bearings will make for a smoother riding experience, and also increase the speed at which your board is able to move. Bearings should always be cleaned before greasing to remove dirt, dust, and other buildup.

Clean the area you are working in, making sure there is no dirt near where you will be placing the removed parts. Remove all four wheels from your skateboard's trucks using a wrench.

    • 2

Pry the bearings out of each wheel after removing them from the board. Remove any dirt that has collected on the bearings by quickly wiping them off with a paper towel.

    • 3

Clean your bearings by spraying them with a citrus- or water-based cleaner. Scrub hard to remove buildup with a paper towel after applying cleaner.

    • 4

Dry off the bearings immediately after cleaning with a paper towel. Apply lubricant or grease to your wheels after fully cleaning them.

    • 5

Pop the bearings back into your skateboard's wheels. Insert the wheels into the axles on your board's trucks and tighten the axle nut down using a wrench.
