1
Set two pieces of 96-inch 2-by-4 pressure-treated lumber parallel to each other with the wide sides facing one another. Place a 21-inch 2-by-4 between the two pieces at both ends and directly in the middle. Cover the ends of the short 2-by-4s with glue and attach them to the long 2-by-4s, then nail them in place to create a rectangular frame with a support in the center.
-
2
Create a second rectangular frame in the exact same way the first was built. Add an additional 21-inch 2-by-4 every 12 inches, so there are seven in all. The finished rectangle should look much like a ladder.
-
3
Take the first rectangle and set one of the 12-inch 2-by-4s inside each of the four corners. Glue the 12-inch 2-by-4s to the corners and nail them in place. Nail from the inside of the rectangle out. Place the remaining two 12-inch boards against the middle brace, on opposite sides. Glue and nail them in place.
-
4
Set the ladder-like rectangle on top of the other rectangle so the top of the 12-inch boards are flush with the top of the rectangle. The boards should line up tight against the corners and the center brace. Glue and nail the 12-inch boards to the ladder-like rectangle.
-
5
Glue and nail the large piece of plywood to the ladder-like side of the box. Place glue on all the edges and run a thin bead of glue down each of the center supports. Nail down the plywood every 12 to 16 inches.
-
6
Attach the small piece of plywood to the side of the box. Place a liberal amount of glue down each of the long 2-by-4s and nail the plywood in place with a nail every 10 to 12 inches.
