How to Design a Skate Ramp

Skateboarders, rollerskaters and rollerbladers all need places to practice. The problem can be that many public spaces are off-limits to skaters for safety reasons, and even public parks and sidewalks can present problems with pedestrians or bicyclists. Design your own skate ramp to avoid pedestrians, loitering charges and crowded public plazas. With an understanding of how skate ramps work, you can design the ideal skate ramp to practice on.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what kind of skate ramp you want given the space that is available to you. The most common skate ramps are half-pipes and quarter pipes. If you are planning on moving your skate ramp around, mini-ramps are the most appropriate. If you are planning on keeping your ramp outdoors, design a larger stationary ramp.

    • 2

Measure the area of the site where you are planning to put your ramp.

    • 3

Sketch out the design for your skate ramp. Make sure it is to scale so that you know exactly how much material you will need.

    • 4

Hire a contractor to review your design. Because contractors have extensive experience working on such projects, they will likely be able to advise you on your skate ramp design and help you to troubleshoot any problematic aspects of your design.

    • 5

Send your design plans and ideas to a skateboard ramp construction service such as OC Ramps or Whitefish Skate Ramp Co. (See Resources.) These services can take your design and build a custom skate ramp kit that will be shipped directly to your house with instructions and the necessary materials needed to create your skate ramp.
