How to Tie Skate Shoe Laces

Skateboarding is a fun and challenging hobby, but learning to skate doesn’t end with the board. Learning how to dress and what to wear can be just as important as the tricks you master at the skatepark--and can help make your skate sessions safer and more comfortable. Bar lacing is one way to lace your shoes that not only looks cool, but lessens the pressure of the laces on your feet and keeps any extra length out of your wheels. It's popular though it works correctly only on shoes with even numbers of eyelet pairings.

Instructions

    • 1

Run the lace directly across the bottom two eyelets. Your lace should run in a straight line between the first eyelets on the shoe. The ends should be the same length when stretched from the shoe.

    • 2

Take the left end of the lace and run it into the third eyelet on the left-hand side of the shoe, skipping the second. The lace should be run through the third eyelet from the bottom, and into the top of the third eyelet on the right.

    • 3

Run the right end of the lace through the second eyelet on the right-hand side of the shoe. This end should come through the right-hand second eyelet from the bottom and go through the top of the second eyelet on the left-hand side.

    • 4

Continue to run both sides from the bottom up the sides of the shoe, always skipping one eyelet, coming up from the bottom, and going in from the top. Your shoes are now bar laced.
