How to Commit to Skateboard Tricks

Skateboarding can be a very dangerous sport. Because you can travel at high speeds and high altitudes, there's always the chance you'll crash and break a wrist or ankle. In order to do tricks like the kickflip or heelflip, you need to overcome your fear of injury. There are several ways to do this. Mastering them will give you the confidence to enjoy the sport free of worry.

Instructions

    • 1

Start off moving slowly. If you try to go too fast too early, you will lose confidence and courage. Adjust the board so you're comfortable with its feel before you start doing tricks at full speed.

    • 2

Wear safety equipment. You will be less afraid to try tricks if you have the proper gear on to protect you when you fall.

    • 3

Practice as much as possible. Learn the proper way to do tricks by watching others. Search for instructional articles and videos, either online or at venues that carry skateboarding gear. Once you understand how the trick is done, you will feel less apprehensive.

    • 4

Visualize yourself landing the trick. Do not lose focus because that increases your chances of a wreck.
