Knowing About Long Boards
-
1
Knowing about longboards is essential to picking the right one. Picking the right one is dependent on body size, weight, preference and skill level. Longboards come in many sizes, shapes and designs. Much like skateboards, they come with the board itself, traction tape, two wheels and two trucks (wheel axles). The difference between longboards and skateboards is that longboards are obviously longer; usually much longer. Longboards also do not have any cups on the board at either end. The wheels are also usually thicker and the trucks are a bit wider.

Finding a skate shop is essential to picking a board. Use caution if purchasing online because it may turn out to be the wrong board. Most skate shops can be found online or in the phone book. Look them up and pick one according to size of their inventory. Most skate shops will have knowledgeable employees to help in the process.

Pick a board first by your preference of appearance. The next thing you want to make sure is that it is built by a reputable company. Ask your sales associate about the producer. Knock-off brands are usually not very safe, especially if you're a beginner. Name-brand producers are known because their products are good.

If you are a taller rider, pick a longer and wider board so it can support you better. For shorter riders, a thinner and shorter board is more suitable. Begin by standing on the board. If you feel your balance is a little off, try picking a board that is of a different size; maybe a little wider or longer or shorter and thinner. Take the board that feels the best to a hard surface that is a little open. Put on the proper safety gear and try a straight ride. If it feels wobbly, it may be the board or it may be your skill level. Either way, keep trying the board. If it continues to feel uncomfortable, try the process over with a few more boards until you get the one that feels right.
