1
Go to your local department store or hardware store and purchase a bookshelf that you must assemble yourself. Ikea, for example, would be a good place to find one. Make sure the bookshelf is at least 6 inches taller than your skis, just to give some leeway for the equipment. Also make sure the shelf is wider than your boots.
-
2
Follow the instructions on how to construct the shelf, except for a few differences. Do not install the shelves. If you do, your skis will not fit into the construction.
-
3
Place your skis into the non-shelved bookshelf and your skis will be out of the way and the construction doesn't look too bad. However, you may want to add to your ski storage.
-
4
Put a couple hooks close to the middle of the construction so you can hang your ski poles (point down). Make sure the tips are covered to prevent injury.
-
5
Make a swinging bar from one of the unused shelves to prevent the skis from falling out. All one needs is a couple hinges and a hook to place on the inside to prevent anyone getting hurt. Therefore, the surface area where you would normally place a book will be facing out and will stretch from one side of the shelf to the other. Place the hinges on one side of the single shelf, one on the top corner about an inch in, the other on the bottom corner about an inch in. Then affix the other part of the hinge to the side of the shelf. The hinges should be attached so they swing out when you need them to.
-
6
Ensure the hook is on the opposite side of the shelf so that you can secure your new "swingbar."
-
7
Place your skis, boots and poles within your new storage unit.
