How to Instruct Zumba

Zumba is a dance fitness program that has spread all over the world. It combines Latin rhythms with easy-to-learn choreography, so it's accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Instructing Zumba successfully can be just as exhilarating as being a Zumba student. Once you get a Zumba Instructor's license, if you keep a few simple and effective techniques in mind, you'll be a great Zumba instructor.

Instructions

    • 1

Be at least 18 years old.

    • 2

Attend a Zumba Instructor Training Course. Participate in the day-long program to earn a license authorizing you to teach Zumba classes and market yourself as a Zumba instructor.

    • 3

Avoid spending too much time explaining the choreography as this will deflate the party atmosphere that is vital to Zumba. Begin the lesson by demonstrating the choreography in a very basic form and use hand signals to direct your students.

    • 4

Ensure that the choreography for the chorus of a song differs from the choreography for the verse of that song.

    • 5

Maintain a 70-to-30 proportion of Latin rhythms to other music. At least 70 percent of the music must be rooted in Latin rhythms and the remainder can consist of any type of music you choose. Use the remainder for warmup and cool-down routines, not for the main portion of the class.
