How to Do a Jumping Jack
Aerobic exercises come in many forms, including calisthenics, which are very effective at increasing muscular strength and endurance. Jumping jacks are among the most popular calisthenic exercises and are usually performed by a variety of people. You can find elementary school students performing this exercise in gym class or athletes completing drills that include jumping jacks. The military uses this exercise as a part of its drills as well. No matter who you are or what age group you fall under, this exercise can help whip you into shape. But, in order to be effective, it needs to be performed correctly.

Begin by standing with your arms at your sides. Keep your legs straight with both feet together. Keep your back straight and head facing forward with a neutral spine.

Bend your knees and jump up. Spread both arms and legs simultaneously and bring your arms up until both hands are overhead. Your feet should open wider than shoulder-width apart.

Touch or clap both hands above your head and return to the starting position by bringing your arms back down to your sides at the same time. Repeat this exercise with as many repetitions as you are able to perform. Be sure to discontinue the exercise if you begin to feel pain in your chest or dizziness.
