Calculate your average stride length to receive the most accurate data. To determine you stride length, take 10 natural steps and measure the distance you have traveled. Divide the total distance by 10. For example, if you travel 10 feet, you would divide 10 feet by 10 which would make your stride length 1-foot.

Put on the watch. Some electrical impulse watches may require you to wear the watch on your left wrist. Other watches may come with a chip that is placed in your shoe. Consult your owner's manual if you are unsure.

Press the appropriate "start" button. Run your chosen route.

Press the "end" button to review the data from your run. Some watches may allow you to store user data and chart progress over several days.
