How to Attach a Pullup Bar to Rafters Using Rope

Installing or building your own fitness equipment is an efficient way to be able to workout at home and avoid the high prices of commercial gyms. Pullups are ideal for strengthening your entire upper body and core and only require the use of a pullup bar. Installing one in your home only requires sturdy rope and the appropriate type of bar.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Throw one end of the rope over the rafter and allow the thrown end to fall back down to meet the other end; you will eventually tie the two ends around the pullup bar. Do the same with the second piece of rope. Space the two pieces of rope to be the same width apart as are the ends of the pullup bar. For example, if the pullup bar is 3-feet long, then the two pieces of rope should be spaced apart by 2.5 to 3 feet as well.

Tie each end of the rope to the ring handles on the pullup bar, respectively, using a two-half-hitch knot for each for security, as shown on the website NetKnots (see Resource).

Test the pullup bar to be sure that it is secure by pulling on it with your hands. If it stays in place, then continue with your exercises, but if it feels as if the knots are coming loose, then tie them over to be secure.
