How to Get a Chin Up Bar Off Your Door?

Chinup bars are great for quick workouts right in your doorway. But sometimes you need to actually close the door, and for that, the bar needs to be removed. There are two styles of doorway-chinup bars. One style hangs down from the top of the doorway, relying on downward force to hold the bar in place. The other style clamps to the sides of the doorway. Both can be removed as needed.

Instructions

  1. Top-Mount Chinup Bars

    • 1

Stand facing the doorway. Move to the side of the doorway where the handles of the chinup bar are facing you.

    • 2

Grasp the underside of the chinup bar and tilt it upwards towards the top of the door. This will release the clamp pressure on the other side of the doorway from the chinup bar.

    • 3

Angle the bar sideways as you do this and remove the bar from the doorway. This works for bars that hang from the top of the doorway.

    Side-Mount or Clamp Chinup Bars

    • 4

Stand in the doorway. Stand so that the chin up bar handles are facing you.

    • 5

Locate the clamps or levers holding the bar to the sides of the doorway. Loosen the clamps or move the levers to the unlocked position. On some chin up bars, you may need to use a screw driver to unscrew mounting screws holding the bar.

    • 6

Tilt the bar on a slight angle sideways while turning it slightly through the doorway and carefully remove the bar from the doorway.

    • 7

Use the screwdriver to remove any brackets or mounts in the doorway for the chinup bar if you are taking it down permanently.
