Always Stretch First

As with all sports and exercises, stretching should be an integral part of your kickboxing routine. In an article from the Falcon Kickboxing club, it is recommended to stretch for at least five to 10 minutes before you begin your normal exercise routine. This will help loosen up your muscles, increase flexibility, and decreases the chance of injury. You should also be able to perform your techniques with better speed and fluency after a good stretch.
Your stretching routine will likely differ depending upon your kickboxing instructor. But, always make sure you feel comfortable with yourself before attempting any kickboxing techniques. If you are practicing kickboxing techniques by yourself, try to complete a full body stretch before starting your regular routine. Leg muscles are not the only part of the body needed for kickboxing. It is also important to stretch the lower back and triceps for punching techniques. Forgoing stretching even once could cost you a serious muscle tear that may take weeks to heal.

After you have warmed up, you can begin practicing actual kickboxing techniques. If you are a beginner, try to focus more on your stance than the actual power of the kick. Remember, you are not try to physically hurt someone, so work on finding the right balance of power and energy.
When you are practicing punching moves, work on speed and accuracy. Also, make sure you have a good defense stance. If you are not properly protecting your body when you throw a punch, your opponent may have an open opportunity for a counter punch. Try to position your chin behind your shoulder and have your other hand in a protective position before you throw a punch.
