How Can I Track Two Miles?

What was once a primary method of survival is now a primary method of exercise. Running is no longer just for children playing in the yard, or competitive athletes; it is for anyone who is looking to enjoy a cardiovascular workout. While running in general is good for you, it can be beneficial to understand the distance you are covering. So instead of going in blind, measure your run with these simple methods.

  1. Measuring your Run

Select a running route. Get in your car and drive the route you planned out on your computer. Set your trip odometer to zero so your car will track the distance traveled. If you do not have a trip odometer write down the mileage at the start of your trip and the mileage at the end of your trip to calculate how far you drove, making sure to reach the two-mile mark. This method should be a guideline and not your final measure.

Walk your course with a measuring wheel. This is probably the most accurate way to determine how far you will be running because you will be following the same path. On a track, runners in different lanes run varying distances if they are not staggered, so you can imagine the difference between driving a car and running along the side of the road.

Calibrate your pedometer to your average stride length and attach it to the waist band of your shorts. This device counts the steps you take and measures the distance you have traveled. Some pedometers also calculate calories burned.
