How to Improve in Spinning Class

Spinning classes are a popular avenue to fitness success. Spinning combines endurance rides, sprints, intervals and hills to work the body in different ways. Once you've been attending spinning classes regularly, you may feel like you've hit a rut, as classes aren't as challenging as they used to be.

Instructions

    • 1

Add resistance to your bike. In a spinning class, your brake pad should always be touching the flywheel of your bike. This mimics the resistance you encounter on an outdoor ride. Always have resistance on your bike. It not only increases your calorie burn but also protects you from injury. Riding without any resistance can put your joints in jeopardy.

Make your hills more challenging. To burn more calories and increase your challenge, add more resistance.

    • 3

Wear a heart rate monitor during spinning class. It can sometimes be hard to judge how hard you're working. A heart rate monitor can help you ensure you are getting the most out of your class. Map out your individual heart rate training zones, and ensure you stay within your zones. This means you aren't working out too strenuously or too lightly.

    • 4

Drink plenty of water before, during and after your spinning class. Your body won't work out as effectively if you are dehydrated.

    • 5

Ask a professional instructor to assess your bike set-up. Incorrect seat or handlebar height can adversely affect your ride. A proper set-up ensures maximum power output and a more efficient workout.

Incorporate rest days into your spinning schedule. Your body needs time to recover. When you give your body an easy day, you'll often find that your next workout is much better.
